Report incidentResearch consistently shows that hate crimes against LGBTIQ+ individuals are severely underreported. Our data represents only documented incidentsβthe true number is likely much higher. Fear of discrimination, distrust of authorities, and privacy concerns prevent many from reporting.
Our database is compiled from news reports, court records, and community submissions. Many incidents never make it to media or official records. This data should be viewed as a minimum count, not a comprehensive census.
Jurisdictions with stronger protections may show higher incident counts due to better reporting mechanisms, not necessarily higher crime rates. Researchers should account for this reporting bias when analyzing the data.
We follow a rigorous process to ensure accuracy while acknowledging the inherent limitations of documenting hate crimes. Every incident is verified before inclusion in our database.
Automated and manual gathering from trusted news sources, court records, and community reports
Cross-referencing sources and fact-checking details before any incident is added
Categorizing by incident type, severity level, and geographic location
Adding verified data to our map, statistics, and public database
